ILL.GATES - “BENT” ALBUM COVER

ill.gates, an electronic bass music producer, approached me with a concept for the cover art for his new album, Bent. ill.gates wanted a bendy human figure with impossible physics being pulled by gravity down a Make Noise Black and Gold Shared System modular synth, with an “expensive” but psychedelic, joyful, vibrant feel to it.

I collaborated on this project with my friend and colleague Nick Orrick, “Oracular”.

This project was done almost entirely in Houdini. The synth was modeled from scratch using pictures and videos of the Black and Gold Shared System as reference. The character was made in Daz 3D and then brought into Houdini, where we used the modeled synth as a collider in a FEM simulation to bend and pull the character down across the synth. Texturing, lighting, and rendering was done in Redshift.
