KEOTA - “NO HANDS” LP COVER ART & ANIMATION

Keota, an electronic bass music artist, approached me with a concept for the cover art (and a looping animation) for his debut LP, No Hands. Inspired by the Severance title sequence (shoutout to ExtraWeg), Keota wanted his likeness brought into the 3D world and animated riding a bike with no hands and a lot of floppy limbs set in a weird, surreal world.

I collaborated on this project with my friend and colleague Rigoberto Hernandez, “Retina Ghost”.

The still artwork was used as cover art for the album, while the animated loop was used as the Spotify Canvas for the entire album, for social media posts to promote the album, and as VJ loops for Keota’s live shows.

This animation was made using Daz 3D to create a fully textured and rigged version of Keota in 3D, then brought into Houdini for character animation, extra limbs, floppy vellum simulations, and hair grooming and simulation. We then exported the alembics to Blender for final texturing, lighting, and rendering. Many of the city assets are from The Happy Toolbox.
